Phrases & Script
“I’m off today but
then I work Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.”
“I’m going to quit
the coffee shop once I start my new schedule.”
“Maybe it’s just me”
“I think it’s just
you”
“You can’t always
depend on that”
Setting: In the bathroom of home, two sisters are getting ready for the day while conversing about the day ahead.
Setting: In the bathroom of home, two sisters are getting ready for the day while conversing about the day ahead.
Hannah enters bathroom first. Turns on straightener and gets
out makeup bag.
Maggie enters.
Maggie: Where have you been all week?
Hannah: Things have been crazy at work. Tim quit the shop so
I’ve had to pick up almost all his shifts. I’m off today but then I work
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Maggie: Extra shifts equals extra money right?
Maggie starts to brush her hair next to Hannah.
Maggie starts to brush her hair next to Hannah.
Hannah: I guess. What really bothers me is that I feel like
my manager expects me to pick them up. No, “Hey Hannah, do you mind picking up
these shifts?” He just assumes that I’ll cover them.
Maggie: Don’t you think that’s a good thing? That he knows you’re
reliable and willing to do it.
Hannah: You can’t always depend on that.
Hannah: I’m going to quit the coffee shop once I start my
new schedule.
Maggie stops what she is doing and shoots a confused glance
at Hannah in response to her statement.
Maggie: Quit? Why?
Hannah: Because I don’t appreciate not being appreciated at my job.
Maggie: (In stern tone) Then tell them that and make it
known. You are rather sensitive to these kind of things, Hannah. You’re an
adult and this is a job. Take everything that happens and what is said with a
grain of salt. You should really try to not take everything to heart.
Hannah looks deep into mirror at herself.
Hannah: Maybe it’s just me.
Maggie: I think it’s just you.
Maggie exits and leaves Hannah in bathroom to ponder discussion.

Documentary Subject
This interview could be used as a marketing tool for the school. It would focus on the impact of the teachers on their students and explore different teaching styles that exist within the system. As I mentioned, I think first grade in particular would be important to highlight as it is an important time in a children's education. The documentary would allow viewers to get to know the teacher and offer them a look inside the classroom.
Interview Questions:
Why did you choose to teach 1st grade?
What do you like best about where you teach?
What is the most important thing you stress to your students?
What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
What do you like best about your job?
What is your favorite activity with your students?
What has teaching 1st grade taught you?
How has teaching changed since you started?
How has technology effected the way you teach?
What are your future goals for your classroom?

Music Video Analysis
The video that I chose is one of my favorite Jason Aldean songs, "Laughed Until We Cried."
I think the music video is a combination of narrative and conceptual. The video and images used tell us a story that the lyrics are trying to paint. They do so by short clips of video that relate what the verse is about. It is conceptual in the way that Jason Aldean is viewing these scenes as someone who is just passing by. It almost appears as though he is imagining the images, as though they are a dream.
The color throughout the video is very cool desaturated. The tone throughout the entire video are very light and airy as though you might be in a dream, which goes along with the storyline. All of the flash backs or scenes that he observes are very quick glimpses as though he is remembering what it was like. Throughout the video, you even notice that the focus is blurry. This makes the movement very fast. The shots that made up with video are mostly ones of depth.
I think the key moment in the video is in the last verse. As he did with the other scenes, it starts out like he is observing and watching these things happen. It then switches and he is finally placed into the scene with his daughter and is able to enter the story and claim it as his own.
There is a ton of movement throughout this entire video. The reason for this is because it switching from story to story, scene to scene. One thing I found interesting is that it all takes place along this beach and boardwalk. So although you are switching stories and at fast pace, it is all within the same setting.
The video both goes along with the story, but also reinterprets it in a new way. From the song and lyrics, you hear that Aldean seems to be describing these experiences that he has had. Although this true, he is not the one experiencing them in the video, rather, he is observing them. I think it is a great way to tell the story and gives it a lot of emotional context.

Self Portrait & Bio
Hi there! I'm Kayla.
I am a senior at IUSB and finally in my final semester of school. It has been three years since I have been a full time student. I spent those years working for the South Bend Tribune in advertising. I love to work out, be with family and friends, read, hunt, meet new people, and be outdoors.
My relationship with media has always been an important one. I enjoy all different genres of music from country, to rap, to musicals. One thing I love about music are the different eras and styles. While I do enjoy some types of music today, I really love going back and listening to old music which have a completely different style than what we have today. There have been so many great songs produced before my time that I know I would enjoy, but have yet to discover. While I love music, I also enjoy comedies and material based on true events, both television shows and movies. I think my main goal is to be as well rounded in as many aspects of media as possible. I would love to be knowledgeable in all areas of video, photo, and web and able to market my own small business as well as other businesses on the side.
